Come for the competition, stay for the experience. The Lake Taupo Region has alot to offer.
New Zealand was the last place on earth to be settled, literally thrust up out of the ocean, a country of fiords, mountains, lakes and rivers greet excited visitors to a country young at heart and full of spirit with Taupo nestled at the centre of it all. Located on the shores of Lake Taupo, a freshwater lake stretching 40kms from Taupo in the north to Turangi Township in the south. It is home to one of the largest bodies of freshwater in the world and a renown trout fishery. Beyond Turangi lay the Mountains of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe providing hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. The surrounding environs are a diverse mix of native bush, exotic forest, geothermal activity and farmland all of which lend itself to all manner of outdoor activities and adventure. Taupo Township and the surrounding region is one of New Zealand’s most prominent tourism destinations offering a wide range of activities, sights and experiences. From golf to trout fishing, sight seeing at the Huka Falls, wandering the banks of the mighty Waikato River, bungy jumping, skydiving and jet boating - it’s all here waiting to be experienced. Want a more sedate day, browse through the boutique shops, museum or art gallery, spend some time among the boats down at the Harbour or sip good coffee at a street side cafe and just plain watch the world go by. The town centre is not large so getting around is easy. At the end of the day two thermally heated swimming complexes provide a relaxed experience, whether it be soaking up the warmth of the water around you or enjoying a massage, sauna or beauty treatment. It’s a great way to time out before heading out to sample the nightlife, bars and restaurants. Taupo has an expansive range of restaurants all with their own specialty dishes. The cuisine is influenced by Maori and Asian culture and the dining a relaxed affair of fresh and healthy produce. Fine dining, cafe or pub meals, seafood, Asian, Italian or kiwi dishes, all are on the menu. New Zealand produces great wine and good beer and Taupo has plenty of Bars for you to sample both and provides an opportunity for you to get to know some Kiwi’s, share some good times, stories and make new friends.
