Auckland City is New Zealand’s principle point of entry for overseas travellers. Auckland is a city of just over 1,000,000 people and is situated in the northern part of the North Island.

Lake Taupo is a comfortable three and a half hours (278kms) from Auckland. The drive takes you through rural set smaller towns and countryside down State Highway One. Rental cars are available direct from the International Airport.

Both Intercity and Newman’s Coachline’s offer several departure options direct from the airport with fares ranging from $28 to $55NZD one way. The trip time is extended dependant on the number of stops made along the way. Full details can be found by visiting www.intercity.co.nz.

The Air New Zealand domestic terminal is located a short walk or bus ride from International and there are three flights daily in and out of Taupo.
Fares range from $79 to $209NZD and the flight takes just 45 minutes with details able to be viewed at www.airnewzealand.co.nz.

The nearest seaport is Tauranga and is situated northeast of Lake Taupo and is a two hour drive. Flights from Tauranga are not practical as they are routed via Auckland making them both costly and time consuming.
